Noblesville High School

Soooo, let's chat about Noblesville High School. My photographer and I arrived late (sorry Mrs. Petty!) and we almost missed the Quiz Bowl practice...keep in mind it was 7a.m.! These kids were up and at 'em, quizzing each other for their upcoming competition. I sat down - buzzer in hand - to try and show off my intellectual skills. Um, yeah. What happens at Quiz Bowl practice stays at Quiz Bowl practice. Unless any of the kids post a comment, I'm not sayin' a word!
Moving on to the new Freshman Campus. I didn't realize schools in the area were housing their 9th grade classes in a completely different building?! Obviously a new trend I knew nothing about! I spoke with a few freshmen who expressed their extreme delight in not having interaction with the "mean upperclassman bullies." (just kidding...they didn't really say that.) FRESHMEN RULE!
Lastly, I attended a guitar class. They have 3 levels of guitar classes at Noblesville High School, which is a sweet option for kids who don't want to be in the traditional band, choir and orchestra. The teacher made the mistake of handing me a guitar...couldn't he see that I was doing completely fine playing my very own leg / air guitar? I strummed a few horrid chords and called it a day. I'd rather enjoy the fine tunes coming from the students. My favorite: Carol of the Bells.
Rock on Noblesville High School!

Fishers High School

First of all, I must give a shot out to Fishers Assistant Principal, Jason Urban. He was in charge of our boom mic all day and did a wonderful job as our production assistant. Seriously, he'll have a job in TV if the whole "administration thing" doesn't work out. :)
I visited the ski club meeting first thing and talked with the kids about what they do...clearly they weren't skiing or learning how to in a classroom. Every Friday night they go to Perfect North slopes to ski and snowboard with their fellow club members! I wish my friends and I could coordinate a trip every Friday night. I love skiing (even though I fall every other run!)
The physical aspect of Fishers High School itself is incredible. I took a trip to their Natatorium to watch the kids in gym class play water polo and it looks like a COLLEGE gym. I was going to join them, but I couldn't get "suited up" before their class period was over. DARN! ;)
We headed over to a math class using laptops. Come to find out the whole campus has wireless capabilities! No matter where you go, you have Internet. They have roaming computer labs, which means they wheel a cart in the classroom holding laptops. They're distributed at the beginning of class and returned to the cart at the end. This way, the students don't have to take half the class walking to a computer lab (although Fishers High School has these too.)
Lastly, I went back to the Natatorium because I was DETERMINED to get in the pool. I got my suit on and debated on which diving board I should go off of...they have 4 or 5! We had some audio issues - (seeing though I was about to jump into water, having a microphone clipped on me would not be a great idea.) This is where Mr. Urban saved us! There he was holding his trusty boom mic on the edge of the high dive - along with Fox59 photographer Jamie Suiter...who kept saying he was afraid of the CAMERA falling in the water, when I think he was a bit afraid of HIMSELF falling in. :) Needless to say, I jumped! (and no one else fell in.)
It was a great visit to Fishers High School...thank you thank you thank you!
