ANOTHER SNOWSTORM GATHERS...ROADS WILL BE MESSY!

A quiet, mostly cloudy day for your Monday with highs in the upper 20s...Cold weather continues and some roads are still pretty rough...Your evening rush hour for today should be just fine too...

Snow moves in tonight after midnight and picks up with intensity by Tuesday's morning rush hour!  We could have a couple of inches on the ground by 9:00am.  This will make for some tough travel and more than likely result in school delays and closings.  Steady snow will continue through Tuesday afternoon with amounts around 3 to 6 inches on the ground by Tuesday night!  More light snow, snow showers, and lake-effect snows will continue for Wednesday.  This could result in additional accumulations of 1 to 3 inches.  This should put complete totals from 5 to 9 inches by Wednesday night in central Indiana!  Along with the snow, more wind will create blowing and drifting of snow through Wednesday night...Look for more updates on possible snow totals throughout the day!

HEAVY SNOW UPDATE @ 11:00AM

Reports of moderate to heavy snow now falling in the area...accumulations are now underway as the winds intensify...Snow will begin to pile-up and roads conditions will worsen.  The evening rush will be a different story than this morning's rush!  Here's your timeline:

-5pm: Heavy and steady snow falling/ roads messy and covered in spots

-7pm: Could be the worst of conditions at this very hour!

-10pm: Steady snow and blowing snow/  As much as 5" on the ground

-9am Saturday:  Snow still falling and breezy...roads a mess with totals around 7" in the city.

Snowfall totals could exceed earlier expectations with amounts ranging from 5 to 10" in the surrounding areas by Saturday night!  Keep in mind these 10 inch accumulations will be very sparse...

Brian will have more later today with updates....

SNOW BLOWS IN TOMORROW...COULD BE HEAVY IN SPOTS!

Another quiet day shaping up with mostly cloudy skies and dry conditions throughout the entire afternoon and evening!   The large winter storm is now underway and growing!  Should begin to make its track toward the circle city by 2:00am Friday morning, hence activating the Winter Storm Watch.

The combination of snow, sleet and rain could make for some slippery travel for the early rush hour.  It appears that as the day wears on snow will fall steadily and heavily at times.  Snow will begin to pile-up and roads will be quite messy by Friday night AND Saturday morning!  How much snow?  It appears that a solid 4 to 7 inches of snow should fall in central Indiana by Saturday morning.  Some areas may actually squeeze out 8 inches.  This will be an all day and all night event so the worst of the conditions will be on Saturday, as the totals will be at their highest then...

BIGGEST SNOW OF THE SEASON COULD BE ON THE WAY!?!

CONUS1_ETA212_SFC_12HRACCUMSNOW_84HR.gifA couple of quiet days are expected for today and Thursday...A little sun for both days and mainly dry conditions too.  Highs for the next two days will be seasonal with ranges from 36 to 40 degrees...

Jumping ahead to Friday and the potential for a more significant snowfall here in the Ohio Valley...early weather models are showing plenty of moisture for the Indy...question is how cold will it be when the precipitation arrives in the city.  If its all snow totals could exceed more than 6 inches...if its a rain/snow mix totals will be less.  More to come in the days ahead! GROUNDHOG DAY BRING SNOW SHOWERS

Snow showers are flying this morning around central Indiana!  It shouldn't amount to too much but even minor accumulations could slicken roads for the morning rush.  Some spots are seeing heavier snow bursts mainly north and east of the city as of 5:15am this morning.  Snow showers should eventually change-over to light, spotty rain showers this afternoon.  Clouds will loom today with highs in the upper 30s.

Our furry friend Punxsutawney Phil will be yanked out of its warm home around 7:25am this morning to give his official forecast.  Right now its cloudy in Pennsylvania which is good...if Phil does not see his shadow that means an earlier spring!

WEAK STORM OUT WEST...ANY LOCAL IMPACT?

Sunshine around this morning should make for a bright start to your Monday and the first day of February!  The combination of sun and light winds should bring our temperatures up this afternoon into the middle to upper 30s...not bad at all!  Clouds will roll in tonight and for the day of Tuesday.  This is part of a weak storm system that will drift through the Midwest over the next 24 hours.  My current thinking is that this storm is lacking moisture, organization and lift.  A combination that means little in the way of snowfall...Overall, precipitation should be light and roads should be fine!

A BRIGHT START...MORE SNOW?

A sunny start this morning but a cold start too...Enjoy the early sunshine as clouds gather this afternoon and into the overnight.  Light snow is expected in the overnight with an inch or less of accumulation.  Most of the accumulating snow will fall south of I-70 and should be ending by 10:00am Thursday morning.  Not a huge deal but some roads will be slick to icy and accidents will ensue...

A southern storm is still being monitored with heavy snow possible from Arkansas to Washington D.C. on Friday and into Saturday!  Watches and warnings are up and this storm is just now forming...traveling south and southeast for the weekend could bring long delays!

LIGHT SNOW EQUALING BIG HEADACHES...

Light snow accumulations around an inch or two from overnight are impacting roadways this morning...not a lot of snow but just enough to slow you down and create school delays for your Tuesday morning.  Most accumulating snows have ended with only brief snow showers expected from this point on!  But due to the type of snow (light and powdery) it is easily blown around and thrown back on to local roads.  The end result is black ice and patchy covered roads through the day.  Wind chills will be fierce this morning with windchills between 5 to 10 above zero!  Look for gusty winds around the area all day long...

The weekend forecast will be an active one with warm and windy conditions on Saturday, followed by heavy rain and storms on Sunday morning.  Saturday's high could be the warmest so far of 2010, forecasted at 55-degrees!  Cold front arrives Sunday morning pushing temperatures down and overspreading the area with heavy rain (1 to 2") and gusty thunderstorms.
