CLOUDS ARE INCREASING FRIDAY AFTERNOON WITH SNOW NOT FAR BEHIND. A EASTERN STORM IS BACKING UP JUST IN TIME FOR THE WEEKEND.
11 PM UPDATE
Snow arrived in the city around 10:30 pm. Accumulations of 1" to 2" is likely by Saturday morning. Numerous slide off were reported across Madison and Tipton County late Friday night. 1" of snow was reported in Daleville in Delaware County with a 1.5" report out of Alexandria in Madison Co.
INDOT reports travel advisories for LaGrange,Grant,Delaware, Randolph,Henry,Wayne,Fayette and Ripley Counties.
THE LATEST SNOWFALL FORECAST
Clouds are thickening Friday afternoon and will continue through sunset. Snow showers pin wheeling around a stalled upper low over the northeast U.S. will spread snow into central Indiana from the northeast. Winter Weather Advisories have been posted for the eastern third of Indiana through Saturday morning.
Snow should arrive in the city around midnight from the northeast. Snow accumulation overnight may total an inch in the city with locally higher amounts east. 1" to 2" of snow is possible in eastern Indiana with accumulation less than an inch southwest of Indianapolis. Snow and gusty winds will create dangerous travel conditions late tonight into early Saturday morning.
Snow will taper to flurries Saturday morning but new snow showers are possible again Saturday afternoon. The upper low is expected to inch east Sunday morning bringing an end to the snow and possibly allowing some sun to break out Sunday afternoon.
The pattern will remain cool - February is running nearly 5 degrees per day below normal - a trend expected to continue as March opens. The cool pattern is expected to remain intact or stalled with colder than normal temperatures for much of the eastern half of the country. Snow showers are possible as pieces of energy dive southward into central Indiana through Thursday.
