The first of two winter storm systems over the next six days will arrive in central Indiana early Friday morning.  A wintry mix of light rain/ freezing rain/sleet and snow will develop in the pre dawn hours across southwestern Indiana.  The precipitation will spread northeast and over take the entire state by lunch time.

A change to all snow is will occur during the day Friday - with temperatures running in the middle 30's the snow will be a "wet" one.  Accumulations of up to four inches are possible in Indianapolis with higher totals expected over eastern Indiana into Ohio.  Snow will diminish early Saturday but still be problematic as winds increase through Friday night into Saturday morning.

UPDATED AT 10 PM

Computer models are indicating a slowing down of the storm system over eastern Kentucky Friday night.  This could explain the uptick in snow fall forecasts over the central and eastern portions of Indiana.  Snow will accumulate through the overnight hours Friday night into Saturday morning especially over the eastern third of the state.  Stay tuned for more updates.

RECAP:  Up to 4 inches are possible in the city by Friday night - additional accumulation is possible through Saturday morning.  Highest totals in excess of 6 inches are likely over eastern Indiana and into Ohio.

Colder air arrives Saturday afternoon and will take hold through next week.  A new system will take shape beginning Monday.  Snow is likely again by early next week and this system could be a strong storm also with significant snow accumulation possible.
