AUGUST TO EXIT HOT AND STILL DRY

THE THERMOMETER REACHED THE 90 DEGREE MARK FOR THE 31ST TIME MONDAY AFTERNOON IN INDIANAPOLIS.  RAINFALL IS IN THE FORECAST BUT NOT UNTIL SEPTEMBER ARRIVES.

Hot and dry conditions continue to plague central Indiana Monday afternoon.  With the rainfall deficit reaching 3.25" below normal for the month the 90 degree heat is now just piling on.  Monday marked the 31st 90 degree day of the season - 18 days is the average.

Hot and dry will be the rule Tuesday and much of Wednesday.  There is a change coming mid week.  The jet stream will buckle and push a cold front into the area late Wednesday night offering up the chance of showers and thunderstorms.

COOL DOWN COMING

With the passage of a cold front Thursday temperatures will cool down as the long holiday weekend gets underway.  The jet stream will dip across the eastern U.S. bringing an end to the recent spell of hot weather.

OUR COLD FRONT AND A MAJOR HURRICANE

Thursday's cold front and pattern change will impact the path of Category 4 hurricane EARL.  The projected path takes EARL off the coast of the southeast U.S. Thursday morning.  The front that moves east of Indiana Thursday night is expected to swing EARL north along the middle Atlantic states and back out to sea.
