SOGGY - BRISK AND COLDER THIS WEEKEND

A STUBBORN UPPER LOW WILL GENERATE MORE RAIN AND BRING IN COLDER AIR THIS WEEKEND. LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN TARGETS PARTS OF THE AREA.

Locally heavy rain Friday night targets eastern and east central Indiana. Radar estimated rainfall of nearly 3" in southern Delaware County with widespread 1" totals in eastern Indiana. Officially .37" of rain reported at the NWS Indianapolis.

The rain will be heavy at times through Saturday morning as it pinwheels around the area of low pressure. Rain will spread south through the day - bringing a soggy Saturday along with cooler temperatures.

The rain will scatter Saturday evening but linger through the day on Sunday. Brisk winds and colder temperatures will make this weekend a far cry from last weekend.

NEXT WEEK

A cooler but more seasonal pattern will be in place as the final week of winter opens. Sun will return Monday - a minor system could bring clouds in again Tuesday. Wednesday - St. Patrick's Day will have a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures in the low to middle 50's.

LONG RANGE

COULD WINTER MAKE A RETURN AS SPRING ARRIVES?

According to the long range GFS model - warm air is headed into Alaska late next week. This will buckle the jet stream and spill late season cold along with possible snow south across the eastern U.S. Stay tuned - we will hawk over later computer runs.

FOG WILL TURN TO RAIN & STORMS

A foggy start to our Friday as visibilities are reduced to under a mile in isolated locations. ]]> Please take it slow when heading out the door this morning. Temperatures are mild in the 40's, and will gradually warm to around 60 degrees. Normally, sunshine is welcomed, but today sunshine will influence our weather pattern in a negative way. Most of the state is under a slight risk for severe weather, and any sunshine we squeeze out, will help to fuel the fire to the storms. We'll stay dry for several hours this morning and then rain and storms will develop by this afternoon and into this evening. Heavy rain, gusty winds, and hail are all expected with any of the thunderstorms we'll see for our Friday. I don't expect widespread severe weather, but I do think we'll see a few isolated storms that *could* reach severe limits. I'll continue to update the timeline on the arriving storms, and the cool down headed our way...on Fox59 morning news.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will begin to diminish later tonight as cooler air makes a move toward central Indiana. The warm spell continue for one more day - Friday but more rain - potentially heavy will signal an end to the early season warmth. Temperatures that reached the middle 60's Thursday will "cool" to the upper 50's.

Clouds will thicken and lower Friday afternoon as showers and potentially gusty thunderstorms develop. Computer generated rainfall estimates of over one inch of rain is possible through Saturday morning.

Cooler air arrives this weekend however the rain threat will not come to an end. Scattered showers are possible through Sunday night.

RAIN AND STORMS RETURN...70'S TAKE A BREAK!

Showers are just west of Indiana as of 6:00am this morning...We are expecting some showers to move in later this morning. More scattered showers and a few thunderstorms also around for the afternoon under mostly cloudy skies. Expect mild temperatures but not as warm as yesterday's high of 72-degrees. A cool trend still in the forecast for the weekend with more rain, don't expect that to change...

NEAR RECORD WARMTH BREWS THUNDERSTORMS

THE HIGH OF 72 IN INDIANAPOLIS WAS THE WARMEST OF 2010 AND THE WARMEST SINCE EARLY NOVEMBER. SEVERE STORMS IGNITE OVER ARKANSAS WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

Sunny skies brought an early taste of May across central Indiana Wednesday. The high of 72 degrees will normally occur on May the 10th. The high was just two degrees shy of the record remarkably set only one year ago. The high last Wednesday was only 38.

Heavy thunderstorms raked central Arkansas late Wednesday night. Three tornadoes were reported through 10 pm with homes damaged and injuries reported in the town of Center Hill.

Showers and thunderstorms will make the move north through the overnight hours arriving in southern Indiana around daybreak and working north. Expect showers and possibly a rumble of thunder Thursday with temperatures remaining mild. High's Thursday should push into the 60's again - well above the average high of 49.

A cool down will get underway Friday evening with the return of more showers and thunderstorms. Colder air - more seasonable air - will settle in for the weekend. High's by Sunday may only reach the middle 40's with a chance of a few wet snowflakes possible early.

TEMPS SURGE TO EARLY MAY LEVELS

AT 4 PM WEDNESDAY THE TEMPERARUE CLIMBED TO 72 DEGREES - JUST SHY OF THE RECORD OF 74. THIS MARKS THE WARMEST OF 2010.]]>

It feels more like early May then early March! The average high of 72 will occur on May the 10th. The unseasonably warm air continues but shower chances and the threat of thunderstorms will bring a sharp cool off late this week and by the weekend.

One week ago the high was only 38 degrees!

Scattered showers continue this morning along with mild temperatures...Showers will dwindle down through the morning as sunshine begins to work in for the afternoon. A combination of south winds, sunshine and milder temperatures this morning should bring big warmth for the afternoon! The forecasted high today for Indy is 68-degrees!!! Look for redeveloping showers this evening and better chances of rain and storms for Thursday and Friday...Cooler weather with showers returns for the weekend!

Get used to the "R" word because we'll be saying it for the next several days. Despite the rain today we hit 61 degrees, and there's more of where that came from...both the 60's, and the rain.

Tomorrow we'll see highs around the 60 degree mark with mostly cloudy skies. Scattered showers are expected tomorrow throughout the day. Winds will also pick up tomorrow ahead of a bigger system that arrives on Thursday. Heavy rain and a few thunderstorms can't be ruled out during the day on Thursday. We aren't expecting any severe weather with this system. Rain will stay with us for days to come, but the warmth won't. SPRING WARMTH BRINGS SPRING SHOWERS!

A mild start this morning with only some patchy fog around...all in all a great start to your Tuesday! Look for clouds to increase throughout the day as scattered showers gather this afternoon for the city...A better chance of rain for this evening as temperatures remain mild in the overnight...Wednesday will be quite warm and have a true feel of Spring! Why? Wednesday's forecasted high of 62-degrees will have scattered showers, mix of sun and clouds, and higher dewpoints, thus creating some higher humidity! Something we haven't had in quite sometime...Enjoy!

FOG MOVES IN THEN THE RAIN

We were greeted this morning with thick fog across much of the state. Sunshine made an appearance as the start of our work week was a beautiful one!]]>

We made it to 60 degrees here in the city and we'll continue to see temperatures above average for the next several days. But with the warmth, comes the rain. Tomorrow we'll see fog again for the morning commute. I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few school closings due to fog so make sure to check with us tomorrow morning starting at 4:30 and again on Fox59.com. Rain will develop by tomorrow afternoon as temperatures top out in the upper 50's. We'll see our fair share of rain over the next several days, and even a thunderstorm or two. WEEKEND WARMTH CONTINUES TO BUILD...

What a great weekend with highs hitting 56-degrees on Sunday! Yesterday marked the warmest day so far of 2010 and more warmth is on the way today. After some patchy, heavy fog this morning look for another dose of sun today with highs in the upper 50s to near 60-degrees in our southern counties! Redeveloping fog for later tonight before rain chances return Tuesday late afternoon...Although rain chances are increasing, there will be several hours of dry weather through Wednesday. Heavier rain and a cooler shift in the weather is expect by Thursday, which will last through the weekend! More on FOX 59 right now until 10:00am...

A RAINY WEEK AHEAD...GRAB THE UMBRELLA!

As we expected, we were able to squeeze out some sunshine to start our Sunday, but clouds are becoming quick to follow.

]]> Rain has already developed to the West of Indianapolis as overcast conditions will become the norm from West to East throughout the remainder of the afternoon and evening. Tonight we'll see areas of rain with temperatures in the mid 30's. Over the next several days we'll see temperatures gradually warm into the low to mid 50's, but with that we'll see daily chances for rain, too. A few models are hinting at highs reaching the upper 50's. Tonight on Fox59 news at ten I'll have the latest on the rain, if it will affect your Monday morning commute, and how much rain we can expect over the next several days.

We're in store for a taste of early Spring today with an abundance of sunshine throughout the state and temperatures near 50 degrees. ]]>

We'll stay dry today and tonight with clouds on the increase early morning tomorrow. The clouds will be followed by a chance for rain tomorrow with highs in the upper 40's to near 50 degrees. Throughout the next several days we'll see temps in the low to mid 50's, but there will be a price tag for that. A daily chance for rain will be likely over the next few days. WEEKEND OPENS WITH SUN - ENDS WITH CLOUDS AND RAIN

A FROSTY AND COLD START SATURDAY MORNING WILL GIVE WAY TO SUNNY SKIES AND TEMPERARURES CLIMBING TO THE 50 DEGREE MARK.

The clear skies early Saturday morning allowed temperatures to start cold with frost and even some patchy fog. Sunny skies dominate the first half of the weekend - allowing temperatures to climb into the upper 40's to around 50 degrees. Thin high clouds late Saturday indicate a system out west will bring the chance of light rain before the weekend comes to a close.

A milder pattern is taking hold but along with it the chance of rain. Clouds will break Monday morning for sun and high's back up to the lower 50's. A storm system in the central Plains Tuesday will generate new showers - arriving Tuesday afternoon. A warm front will inch northward Tuesday afternoon. This front will provide the milder air but also focus the rain chances over central Indiana through Friday.

The ISS will arrive in the southwest sky at 7:18 PM tonight and travel northeast. The station - traveling at 17,000 MPH will be seen for four minutes.
